At the helm of Altengartz German Bratwurst in Portland is Jameson, who grew up surrounded by the smells of sizzling sausage and the sounds of family tradition. After inheriting the business from his parents, Jameson made it his mission to keep the soul of Altengartz alive while bringing it to new audiences around Portland. With a deep respect for his family's German roots and a passion for serving the community, Jameson continues to steer the truck with care, integrity, and a whole lot of flavor. You'll often find him behind the grill, chatting with longtime regulars and introducing newcomers to what authentic bratwurst should taste like.

  • Veggie Brat

    As featured on "60 Minutes"! The same seasoning blend as our bratwurst blended into fresh chickpea instead of pork. Available veggie or vegan and served on a toasted bun. Gluten-free if the "no bun" option is selected.

  • Garlic Brat

    Our signature brat topped with toasted fresh garlic mixed into either caramelized onion or grilled sauerkraut. On a toasted bun or sliced in a dish.

  • Currywurst

    Sliced bratwurst, sliced toasted bun, topped with Altengartz house-made mild (not spicy) Indian Curry ketchup sauce.

  • Altengartz Bratwurst

    Altengartz's signature house-made quarter pound fresh pork sausage. Char-grilled and available on a toasted bun or sliced in a dish. Nitrite, MSG, and gluten free.

  • Breakfast Brat or Burger

    One egg scrambled in butter atop our brat or burger and topped with grilled cheese.

  • Double Bratwurst

    Two of Altengartz's signature house-made fresh pork sausages. Char-grilled and served on a toasted bun or sliced in a dish without a bun. No nitrites, nitrates, MSG, or gluten. Optional toppings add each.

  • Sloppy Fritz

    Better than a Sloppy Joe because we mix half seared ground Altengartz Bratwurst and half seared ground beef in a delicious sloppy joe sauce served on a toasted bun; often topped with caramelized onion and/or grilled cheese.

  • Hamburger or Cheeseburger

    One-third pound fresh never frozen ground beef "Hamburg"er with lettuce and tomato.

  • German Potato Salad

    Served warm with bacon and green onion. Apple cider vinegar dressing; no mayo.

  • Baked Beans

    House-made. Sweet and tart in a sauce of mustard and brown sugar. Served warm.

  • Lays Potato Chips

    A plain salted potato chip. Vegan and gluten free.

  • Swiss Cheese Fondue Sauce

    Warmed house-made cheese and garlic sauce. Served on the side and great for dipping.

  • Four Bean Salad

    Green beans, yellow wax beans, kidney beans, and garbanzo beans served chilled in a vinaigrette dressing with black pepper.

Desserts

  • Apple Strudel with vanilla cream icing

    House-made. Fresh local apples between two layers of puffed pastry with a thin layer of melted cream cheese.
